My best friend would always joke and say that I act like a guy. Not in the disgusting burping and farting type of way, but in my way of thinking. I never thought of it as a problem until a guy that I had been talking to brought it up. He said that it was a turn off because he felt like he was hanging with one of the guys. Now it has me wondering why this is not okay. As women, we always wish that men thought like us or could at least understand where we come from, so why is it not the same the other way around? Guys, wouldn’t it be great if a woman understood why you wanted to go out to the club without her or why you don’t want to hang out at her mother’s house or why you just want to be left alone?
His comment also made me think how as women are we suppose to act? Am I suppose to put on a sexy black dress and run around singing, “Cater to You,” all day? I’m sorry but in the real world, it doesn’t work like that. I am a single mother with two boys. After all the running around and cooking and cleaning that I do, you should be happy that you get a smile when I open the door. Now, I’m not saying that the “Cater to You” thing can’t ever happen but you can’t expect it everytime you see someone. No normal woman is running around all day with a smile on her face and your dinner in her hand. Nowadays women are more independent than men and are pretty much handling life on their own. Guys, if you want a girl to do all these things for you, give her a reason to. Don’t expect things to just happen. Don’t expect food on the table at all times. Don’t expect to come in and watch the game. Don’t expect to get lucky at the end of the night. And if any of these things do happen, show some appreciation. The more you appreciate someone, the more they will unwillingly do things for you. As for me, I relish in the fact that I “act like a man.” I love that I am not clingy, or super emotional, and just have an I-don’t-give-a-damn-attitude. That’s what makes me me. And guys, if you can’t handle a woman who can hold her own and doesn’t need you to constantly hold her hand, then maybe you are the one who should start “acting like a man.” Just saying.
