I took a deep breath as I heard the music change. One more song. I began to strap on my six inch clear stilettos. The higher the heel equaled the more money I would make. I walked over to the mirror and fixed my hair. My signature red hair was full of curls. Men loved a woman with a full head of curls. It added more fantasy. That’s all I was to them anyways. A beautiful, 5’6, thick, brown skinned fantasy. Someone they wished they could be with. Someone they spent their whole paycheck on. I checked my makeup. Flawless like always. I listened to the music. The song was almost over. I walked back over to my locker and looked in my bag. I took out a shiny purple flask. I always loved the color purple. It had a way of making me feel important. I opened the flask and took the apple flavored Vodka straight to the head. I sat back down and let the alcohol do its magic. Just then my daughter’s face popped up in my mind. No, Talia. Don’t start. It’s too close to showtime. I threw back another shot and another until my little K’aniya was no longer in my head. I closed the flask and threw my things in the locker. I took a deep breath as I walked down the hallway. As I got closer to the main entrance I could smell everything. The cheap cologne, cigarette smell, and the pungent smell of bleach overwhelmed me. Talia, get it together. It’s not that serious. Go out there and get this money. As the DJ changed the record I heard him about to introduce me…well her. There was no more me at this point. Once I walked out on that stage Talia was gone. For the rest of the night it was all about her. It was all about Desire.
