So it’s February 15th AKA “Sidechick Day”. You know the day after your boo has spent Valentine’s day with his main girl and he is just now getting to you. Oh, you didn’t think he was really busy at work or spending his time with his mother now? That’s a whole different post. This post is for the women who know they are the side chicks and the women who hate them. Now, we all know what a side chick is. The girl that basically isn’t the main chick. Now, normally this would be the girl that just gets called for sex, but as we see in reality shows and news, the side chicks are starting to come up in the world. They are the ones getting the ring quicker than the main chick. Why is this? Could it be like that t-shirt pic up there? The sex appeal of the side piece is more appealing than the main chick? Is it more exciting to be with someone that you know you aren’t suppose to be with?
When it comes to dealing with side chicks most women can concur that they should be burned at the stake, but why? Yes, she is sleeping with a committed man, but is that man really committed? Just because he is someone’s boyfriend does that officially mean he is off limits? Yes, culturally he is but not everyone is raised on those same morals. I, personally, would never be with someone else’s man but I found myself in a conundrum when I began to like someone who was suppose to be just a friend and he has a girlfriend. What do you do when those feelings just come left field and smack you in the face? Me, I’m just sitting back and trying to send those feelings back to hell where they came from, but other women decide to act on these emotions. And why not? In their eyes, they see no wrong. If the man is willing, then isn’t he not as committed as one would think. You can’t make someone do what they don’t want to do.
Now, yes you have these side chicks who are just a thirst trap. They know the man is not interested and is committed but they continue to entice them. This is wrong. It’s like being on a diet and your coworker continues to show up with wings every day…after a while you are going to fall victim to it. My biggest hangup with side chicks is the treatment that people give them. I thought about this as I was listening to a radio show that a friend of mines was on. They were discussing “Scandal” and why for that hour all women are in agreement with cheating. I definitely am a victim of this. I cheer for Liv when she hooks up with Fitz and curse at Millie when ever she comes around. Is it because you can see the chemistry that Olivia and Fitz have and you know that it’s is real love? Mainly, yes. But why then do we hate on Alicia Keys or Gabrielle Union or any other woman who comes into a relationship and somewhat “steal” the man away? Could there not be real love between a committed man and a side chick? I mean look at Joseline and Stevie J….wait that might not be a good example lol. But you get my drift.
In no way am I condoning cheating. If you want to explore then be single. But I just think it is interesting, the whole side chick discussion. Love them or hate them…they are here to stay. Unfortunately.
